“We never know the worth of water till the well is dry. ” ― Thomas Fuller

I learned that water is truly a life-giving resource that must be saved.  As a child I poured the water from a cooler right onto the ground.  My father scolded me by saying we should not waste water.  As I grew older and discovered you could purchase bottled water, I  thought, "Why are they selling water?  Water is free."  Recently I went to an emergency preparedness class.   Mike, our instructor showed a collapsable four-gallon jug attached with a hose to a shower head.  In an emergency we could hang the jug from a tree branch on a sunny day, and by evening four people could enjoy a warm shower.  That is bonkers.  Not about having warm water, but that four people could shower.  It is not uncommon for me to fill the tub with more than ten times that amount of water for my "read and relax" bath.  So now, after my bath, I  fill a bucket with bath water,
carry it outside,
pour it into a watering can,
and water my outside plants that are in beds under the roof eves because they don't get the winter water they need.
I feel so much better not wasting water, and my plants survived the winter.
